Report: West Ham told to raise bid by £4m to get striker signing done before deadline day

West Ham need to raise our bid for one of David Moyes’s key striker targets if we want to get the deal done in the January transfer window.

The Hammers sold Sebastien Haller to Ajax way back in January 2021.

And amazingly, we still haven’t replaced him, leaving Michail Antonio as the only centre-forward option available to David Moyes at the London Stadium for more than a year now.

That quite clearly isn’t good enough for a club with aspirations of competing for honours both domestically and on the continent.

Only five days remain before the January window slams shut. So those in power at West Ham had better get their ducks in a row…and fast.

It seems as though the Hammers could be close to one striker in particular. We apparently need to push the boat out a little more in order to get him though…

West Ham need to up striker bid

According to a report from Le 10 Sport, the Hammers have already made a €15 million (£13 million) offer for Clermont hitman Mohamed Bayo:

The Ligue 1 outfit are allegedly demanding €20 million (£17 million) for the 23-year-old forward, however.

We believe this is one that the West Ham owners just need to cough up for.

Signing Bayo for £17 million would certainly be better than bringing in nobody at all.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form this season with nine goals and two assists in 17 Ligue 1 games to his name (Transfermarkt). That comes after bagging 22 goals and eight assists in 38 Ligue 2 games last term.

At just 23, he has so much talent and potential. He is still very raw of course. He has all the skills needed but they need to be refined before he becomes an elite striker.

Importantly, Bayo possesses blistering pace and he is very strong indeed, so should be ideally suited to Premier League football.

The speedy Clermont striker is at the prime stage of his career to make the move from Ligue 1 to the Premier League.

And if West Ham manage to sign him in the January window, we will be in a great position to kick on a finish inside the top six this season.
