Report: West Ham 'like' idea of signing 26-year-old Aston Villa ace in January window

West Ham like the idea of signing Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa before the January transfer window closes according to a report from The Daily Mail.

Making signings during the January window is always tricky but sometimes a deal will make sense for both the buying and selling clubs.

West Ham boss David Moyes desperately needs to sign an attacker this month whilst Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard may just be looking to offload one of his forward players.

The Hammers have already been linked with a whole host of attacking players over the past 12 months. And another has been added to the list.

West Ham eyeing move for Aston Villa ace in the January transfer window

Villa ace Anwar El Ghazi is on the Hammers’ radar according to claims from the Daily Mail.

It is suggested that West Ham like the idea of bringing the 26-year-old attacker to the London Stadium from Villa Park this month.

The Holland international seems to have a really uncertain future with the Villans. Steven Gerrard has given El Ghazi just 33 minutes action since taking over as Aston Villa manager in November.

He does have genuine talent though and bagged 10 goals in 28 Premier League games last season for Aston Villa (Transfermarkt).

Villa signed El Ghazi from French side Lille in the summer of 2019 for around £8 million according to a report from The Guardian.

The Dutchman can play on either wing or through the middle as an auxiliary centre-forward. He possesses absolutely blistering pace and is a real technician. He has a real eye for goal as well.

El Ghazi is nothing like Michail Antonio though. He would struggle to lead the line on his own and is in no way whatsoever a target man type forward.

In some ways though, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s good to have different option and signing someone different to Antonio would enable Moyes to play with a plan B if and when he’s required to do so.

El Ghazi doesn’t have the best work-rate though and we all know just how much emphasis Moyes places on hard work.

Whether Villa boss Gerrard will be prepared to sell the former Lille man to a Premier League rival remains to be seen. It might not matter anyway though.

We just think it’s highly unlikely that the 26-year-old Aston Villa man will be a target for West Ham this month. He doesn’t possesses all of the attributes that Moyes looks for in a player.

And there are players out there who would probably fit into Moyes’s current system at West Ham far better than the Dutchman.
