West Ham want to make two quality signings in January but fear they may well be hard to get over the line this month according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Hammers boss David Moyes has plenty of work to do at the London Stadium over the next few weeks.

West Ham are currently enjoying a brilliant campaign. We are sitting pretty in fifth position in the Premier League table, just one point adrift of fourth placed Arsenal.

The East London outfit have a Europa League last 16 tie to look forward to in March as well.

Things really are looking very bright at the London Stadium. In order to make the jump up to the next level though, Moyes needs to add some top-class players to his ranks. It seems as though that’s exactly what the Scot has in mind this month…

West Ham want two quality January signings

The Daily Mail claims that the Hammers have identified two elite signings this month. That in itself is great news.

The bad news though is that West Ham allegedly believe that it will be hard to get deals done for those two players before the January transfer window slams shut.

That is incredibly frustrating.

January is always a difficult window to operate in but it always seems to be us who have the most problems.

Whether that is because our owners are particularly tricky to deal with or if it’s purely due to the fact that clubs do not want to sell their best players midway through a season in the month of January is unclear.

One thing is for certain though – West Ham cannot head into the second half of the season with our current squad and expect to challenge for the top four and compete in the latter stages of the Europa League.

We need more bodies. Not just any players to fill out the squad but truly top-class signings are needed.

The additions of a quality centre-back and an established, prolific striker should be a prerequisite this month.

The race for the Champions League spots will probably be the fiercest it has ever been with Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and even Wolves all in contention alongside us.

West Ham face a huge January transfer window ahead of us this month. Our ability to make a couple of top tier signings will unquestionably shape our 2021/22 season.

We all realise that a couple of signings could go a long way this month. David Moyes undoubtedly does as well. Whether David Sullivan shares the same viewpoint though, remains to be seen.
