Report: West Ham have a great chance of signing £25m ex-Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi this summer

West Ham United target and ex-Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi will definitely be heading to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from Soccernet who claims that the Hammers will have to battle it out with Newcastle for the one time Liverpool front-man’s signature at the end of the season.

West Ham manager David Moyes is desperate to bring a new striker to the London Stadium this summer.

The Scot is clearly looking for someone who can fulfil an almost identical role to Michail Antonio. That’s perhaps why he has found it so hard to find a forward for the right price since moving Sebastien Haller on to Ajax in January 2021.

The Hammers boss is on the look-out for someone with plenty of pace, power, energy and stamina. And it seems as though Moysie may well have settled on one man in particular…

West Ham target Taiwo Awoniyi is Premier League bound

German newspaper Bild claimed last week that the Hammers want to bring the former Liverpool striker to the London Stadium this summer and could be willing to pay around £25 million to make it happen.

And it appears as though the 24-year-old is set to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League this summer (Soccernet).

Liverpool fans will be interest to know that their club could be in line for a windfall should the Hammers sign the Nigerian ace. They have a 10% sell on clause according to The Liverpool Echo, so would be in line for around £2.5 million if he moves to the London Stadium this summer.

We think that the ex-Liverpool hitman would be a sensational addition for West Ham.

He is a real powerhouse and would be the perfect long-term replacement for Michail Antonio.

Awoniyi has bagged an impressive 17 goals and four assists in 37 games for Union Berlin so far this season (Transfermarkt).

The Nigerian is a total menace for opposing defenders. The 24-year-old is absolutely rapid and is built the like a proverbial outhouse.

Awoniyi is a willing and tireless runner. His physical attributes help him occupy more than one defender at a time and that in turn creates space for his teammates.

For just £25 million, West Ham signing the 24-year-old in the summer transfer window seems like an absolute no-brainer.

We would be absolutely delighted if David Moyes ends up bringing Awoniyi to the London Stadium in the summer.

And judging by the report from Soccernet, that could be a very real possibility.
