West Ham are closing in on a deal to sign Nayef Aguerd from Rennes for a reduced fee, and he is due to undergo his medical this week.
Personal terms are allegedly close to being finalised between the Hammers and the player and it has been suggested that the fee that we are paying for Aguerd is actually only £20 million.
That’s according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth who claims that a deal to bring Aguerd to the London Stadium is imminent.
David Moyes is clearly prioritising the addition of a top-class central defender this summer.
Aguerd certainly fits into that category. The Moroccan is a truly elite centre-back and will undoubtedly take West Ham to whole new level entirely.
It was originally suggested that the fee the Hammers had agreed to pay Rennes for Aguerd was £34 million (L’Équipe).
It seems as though the East London outfit aren’t paying anything like that for the Moroccan though…
West Ham fee for Aguerd
The Hammers were believed to be paying well north of £30 million for the 26-year-old centre-back.
In all fairness, that would have been decent value anyway.
The Rennes ace will be a tremendous addition to David Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium.
Aguerd has been described as a ‘magnificent’ defender by Morocco Detail Zero.
And he’s left-footed so is the ideal long-term replacement for ageing defender Angelo Ogbonna.
It seems as though West Ham are about to pick him up for an absolute bargain…
According to a report from Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, West Ham are actually only set to pay £20 million for Aguerd:
Let’s hope that Sheth has got his facts right because West Ham paying a £20 million fee for Aguerd will be outstanding business for us.
