Newcastle could allegedly sign long-term West Ham target Duvan Zapata from Atalanta in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from Calcio Atalanta who claim that the Serie A side are prepared to sell the 31-year-old striker for just €25 million (£21 million) this summer.

That comes after West Ham had a €40 million (£34 million) bid accepted for the Colombia international back in January but unfortunately, we just couldn’t get a deal for the forward over the line in time.

Both West Ham and Newcastle desperately need to sign a top-class striker this summer.

And the Magpies are seemingly now in a good position to sign one of the Hammers’ transfer targets…

Newcastle could sign Duvan Zapata

According to a report form Calcio Atalanta, the Toon could pick up the Atalanta hitman for just £21 million in the summer transfer window.

That’s a full £13 million less than what West Ham were prepared to pay for the South American in January.

We all know how troublesome Newcastle have become for West Ham in transfer market.

And if they beat us to the signing of Zapata it would be a really big blow to stomach.

The 31-year-old striker, described as ‘deadly’ by talkSPORT, will be a superb addition for whichever club wins the race for his signature.

Zapata was in fine form in Italy last season, racking up 13 goals and seven assists in 32 games for Atalanta. He also boasts a decent career record of 150 goals in 388 games (Transfermarkt).

The South American hitman seems to possess all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League.

Zapata stands at 6ft 2in tall, and possesses an impressive build and physique. He is strong as an ox and has pace in abundance.

The Colombian has experienced numerous problems with injury though. He suffered an adductor injury during the second half of last season and missed around three months of action.

So perhaps missing out on the striker was a blessing in disguise for West Ham.

Only time will tell, however. And if Newcastle do sign Duvan Zapata this summer, the Hammers fans will undoubtedly be looking on with a keen interest.
