Brentford are allegedly planning to offer Ivan Toney a new contract amidst interest from West Ham United ahead of the January transfer window.

That’s according to a report from The Mirror who claim that the Hammers could face competition from the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle and Leeds for the 26-year-old striker’s signature.

However, Brentford are determined to tie their prized asset down to a new contract, in an attempt to ward off interest from the four Premier League clubs.

It is claimed that if Toney is to sign a new deal with Brentford though, a release clause will be included.

West Ham were linked with a move to sign the ex-Newcastle striker in the summer transfer window, but we ended up signing Gianluca Scamacca instead.

It seems as though Moyes is keen to bolster his attacking ranks at the London Stadium even further still though…

Ivan Toney new contract on the cards amidst West Ham interest

The Mirror reckon that Toney’s form this season has caught the attention of the Hammers ahead of the January transfer window.

We think that the 26-year-old would be a truly exceptional signing for West Ham.

Ivan Toney has everything that West Ham need. He has pace in abundance, possesses great movement and is obviously a great finisher.

Standing at 6ft 2in, the striker offers his team a real focal point to their attacking play.

Toney bagged 31 goals in 45 games for Brentford in the Championship in the 2020/21 season (Transfermarkt). He’s now proven that he can do it in the Premier League as well.

The 26-year-old has bagged six goals in nine Premier League games so far this season and racked up 12 goals and five assists in 33 league games last term (Transfermarkt).

Toney would take West Ham to a whole new level entirely. Just imagine him and Gianluca Scamacca together up front!

There is one huge problem that West Ham face, however. The 26-year-old is valued at around £50 million by Brentford according to 90Min.

And who knows how much Ivan Toney will cost if Brentford do indeed sign him up to a new contract. Maybe the release clause will be similar to that kind of fee.

Either way, we think he’ll be too expensive for West Ham in January.
