West Ham reportedly could try to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City in the summer.

According to 90 Min, Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips remains on the radar of West Ham ahead of the summer transfer window.

Hammers boss David Moyes has allegedly been trying to bring Phillips, 27, to the London Stadium since January 2022.

He joined Manchester City from Leeds in the end, but a move to bring him to the London Stadium could be back on with Moyes on the hunt for a Declan Rice replacement.

The 24-year-old is being heavily tipped to join Arsenal this summer. And it seems as though one of Dec’s closest mates could be brought in to replace him, if he does indeed leave the London Stadium…

Kalvin Phillips to West Ham could be on this summer

The 26-capped England international has played just 102 minutes of Premier League action for Man City under Pep Guardiola this season (Transfermarkt).

And as a result, he could leave the Etihad in the summer transfer window, with West Ham chasing his signature, according to 90 Min.

Listen, Phillips is a really talented midfielder. However, I’m not sure we should be going anywhere near him considering his recent injury record.

Since the start of the 2020/21 season, the 27-year-old has missed 216 days of action due to shoulder, hamstring and calf injuries (Transfermarkt).

One thing that players need to succeed in the Premier League is physical robustness and Phillips certainly doesn’t seem to have that.

Manchester City paid around £45 million to sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds in the summer of 2022, so they will probably demand not too far off that amount if they are to sell him to West Ham.

I don’t think the Hammers should be going anywhere near the former Leeds midfielder this summer. When we sell Rice, getting our recruitment 100% spot on will be crucial to our hopes of continuing to make progress after the 24-year-old’s exit.

And bringing in Phillips will definitely not represent a forward-thinking, innovative transfer move from West Ham in my opinion.
