West Ham United’s absolute number one priority in the summer transfer window allegedly is to sign Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata.

Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needed to sign a top-class striker in the January transfer window.

One of the players on the Scot’s radar was Atalanta hitman Zapata according to ESPN.

It is alleged that a deal for the Hammers to sign the 30-year-old Atalanta striker was ‘hastily arranged’ on deadline day.

West Ham were just apparently just one signature away from getting the deal done – an agreement was reached and paperwork was exchanged between the two clubs with sufficient time remaining on January 31st.

One final signature was required from the powers that be at the Serie A club, but they ‘went missing’.

Perhaps the Hammers shouldn’t have left it until the final day of the transfer window to get a deal for Zapata over the line!

It seems as though the powers that be at the London Stadium have not been discouraged though…

Atalanta striker is West Ham summer window number one priority

Milan Live claims that Duvan Zapata is the Hammers’ first choice ahead of the summer.

We think that the 30-year-old would be an exceptional addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium.

The 30-year-old Atalanta hitman has been described as ‘deadly’ by talkSPORT. Meanwhile, Goal describe Zapata as an ‘incredible’ forward.

Zapata has been in fine form in Italy this season, racking up 12 goals and seven assists in 23 games for Atalanta. He also boasts a decent career record of 149 goals in 379 games (Transfermarkt).

The South American hitman seems to possess all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League.

Zapata stands at 6ft 2in tall, and possesses an impressive build and physique. He is strong as an ox and has pace in abundance.

Since our failed deadline day swoop to sign him, he suffered an adductor injury when playing for Atalanta and could be out of action for around three months. So perhaps West Ham had a lucky escape by missing out on the Atalanta ace. If he recovers and gets back to his best though, we can’t think of too many strikers who are more perfectly suited to the English game.

Forza Italian Football claims that Atalanta want around €40 million (£33 million) for the 30-year-old striker. Whether West Ham will be prepared to pay that amount for Zapata in the summer or will chase a loan with an option to buy deal is unclear.

What is clear is that West Ham cannot allow another transfer window to pass without signing at least one top-class striker.

And it seems as though David Moyes has a very clear plan in mind as to who he wants to bring to the London Stadium in the summer.
