Report claims Monaco could sign West Ham defender Issa Diop for just £12 million this summer

West Ham United defender Issa Diop is a reported summer transfer window target for Ligue 1 side Monaco.

That’s according to a report from French publication Foot Mercato who claim that the Hammers could sell the 25-year-old centre-back for around €15 million (£12 million) this summer.

We have covered two stories from the French media about Lyon chasing Diop a couple of weeks ago right here on Hammers News. And now it seems as though another French club want the centre-back.

Moyes really should be looking to increase his numbers, not lessen them. If the Scot wants to make an upgrade though, selling Diop and bringing in someone else will be a sure-fire way of doing just that.

And it seems as though Diop could be heading back to France in the summer…

Monaco targeting summer deal for Issa Diop

According to French publication Foot Mercato, Monaco are targeting a move to sign the 25-year-old West Ham centre-back in the summer.

And the Hammers allegedly could demand around £12 million for the former Toulouse defender.

That would represent a £13 million loss on the £25 million that we paid Toulouse for his services nearly four years ago (The Express).

In all fairness though, that kind of fee would represent decent business for West Ham, such has been the drastic regression of Diop over there past 18 months or so.

The 25-year-old has been a liability for West Ham most of the times that he has played this season. He has no positional sense and continues to make extremely rash decisions that have proved costly for us.

In fairness to Diop, however, he did perform brilliantly during our Europa League clash with Lyon a couple of weeks ago. So Moyes may well think that the centre-back is still a player he can work with.

We believe that moving him on will be the right call though. Whether Monaco will be prepared to pay £12 million for his services in the summer remains to be seen though.
