Report: Brilliant ex West Ham hero Marko Arnautovic could be set for sensational Premier League return with Man United

A new report claims brilliant ex West Ham hero Marko Arnautovic could be set for a sensational Premier League return with Man United.

It was not so long ago that Arnautovic was being linked with a somewhat controversial return to West Ham.

Last summer West Ham boss David Moyes publicly admitted he could look to bring Arnautovic back to West Ham.

Moyes and new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag are in the midst of big rebuilds at West Ham and Manchester United.

Former Hammers fan favourite Arnautovic had been heavily linked with a return to West Ham in every window since his messy departure.

The Austrian was a revelation in the Prem when Moyes converted him to a striker in his first spell at West Ham.

But he left the Hammers on a sour note, demanding a big money move to China just months after signing a bumper new deal in east London.

Moyes admitted he could move for Arnie last summer if he showed he could still do it at the top level during the Euros.

Many felt he did that with a couple of strong showings, particularly against Italy.

But for whatever reason the second coming did not transpire and Arnautovic joined Serie A side Bologna instead.

The former Hammer scored 14 goals and laid on one assist in 33 appearances for Bologna last season.

Now brilliant ex West Ham hero Arnautovic could be set for a sensational Premier League return with Man United.

That’s according to reports emerging in Italy from La Gazette dello Sport and Get Italian Football News.

Arnautovic, 33, was recently linked with a move to Juventus. And he is now once again being linked with a return to England at Man United.

Report: Ex West Ham hero set for sensational Prem return with Man United

The former Hammer is said to be ‘fascinated’ by the idea of signing for Man United.

“Manchester United hold an interest in the possibility of signing Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic,” La Gazette dello Sport and Get Italian Football News claim.

“Man United will head into their Premier League opener with the possibility of starting with Cristiano Ronaldo, whose future remains uncertain and the Portuguese wants to leave. Anthony Martial will miss out due to injury. With that in mind, it is barely a surprise that the club want new forwards…

“Arnautovic is said to be quite fascinated by the idea of returning to the Premier League, where he spent a fair amount of time during stints at West Ham and Stoke City. As of now, Bologna’s price tag is said to be high as they want to keep hold of the Austrian.”

Man United have a long history of bringing inspirational and talented forwards to the club in the swansong of their careers.

From Eric Cantona to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Ronaldo.

And let’s not forget once upon a time that Sir Alex Ferguson also tried to bring in legend Paolo Di Canio from West Ham.

It would be fascinating to see if Arnie can still cut it in the Prem. He proved in Serie A, in a very average team, that he still has power and pace and knows where the goal is.

It would also be interesting to see what kind of reception he would get from Hammers fans if he did return with Manchester United.
