West Ham United are reportedly battling it out with Leicester City to sign Sasa Lukic from Torino in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Calciomercato who claim that Leicester have now joined the Hammers in the race for the 26-year-old central midfielder this winter.

David Moyes is allegedly keen to bring Lukic to the London Stadium this summer, and it has been claimed that the Scot is leading the race for his signature.

It seems as though the Serbian is a highly sought after commodity this winter, with the likes of Napoli and Roma chasing his signature (Calciomercato).

But now Leicester have allegedly joined the Hammers in the race for the Torino star as well…

West Ham battling Leicester for Sasa Lukic

Calciomercato claim the the Foxes and the Hammers are fighting for the £13 million signing of the 26-year-old midfielder.

And I think that the Torino man could actually be a very smart addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium, especially for just £13 million.

The 35-capped Serbia international is an orthodox central midfielder by trade, but he can also operate in a more advanced role, or even as a deep-lying midfielder.

He started all of his country’s games at the World Cup out in Qatar this winter, and really impressed with his technical ability when in possession of the football.

Lukic has scored two goals in 12 Serie A appearances for Torino so far this season (Who Scored).

During those appearances, the 26-year-old has averaged 1.4 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 0.8 clearances per game. The Serbian has made 43.7 passes on average per match and has recorded an impressive completion rate of 88.7% (Who Scored).

Lukic is a very solid operator, and it could be argued that David Moyes really needs to strengthen his options in the middle of the park.

West Ham may well hold an advantage over Leicester in the race to sign Sasa Lukic, due to Torino’s desire to get a reduced price for the Nikola Vlasic deal.

Let’s hope that that ends up being the case.
