Pendulum swings again as journalist makes huge Declan Rice to Chelsea claim

A deal that would see Declan Rice join Chelsea from West Ham United is further along the line that some people may think.

That’s according to football journalist and self-described European transfer news analyst Kristian Sturt who made the big claim about Chelsea’s pursuit of the 23-year-old last night.

Club insiders suggested a few days ago that Rice could be moved on from the London Stadium in the summer of 2023, if he refuses to commit to a new long-term deal again.

That would have been music to the ears of the Chelsea fans.

However, Rice then spoke about how West Ham is in his heart, just before the World Cup kicked off.

And that would have been a big boost for the Hammers fans.

Now though, it appears as though the pendulum has swung the other way yet again, with Chelsea boss Graham Potter apparently fairly well advanced in his plan to bring Rice to Stamford Bridge from the London Stadium…

Kristian Sturt has suggested that the 23-year-old West Ham skipper could very well be a Chelsea player this time next year:

That really is a big claim and all that we can hope is that there actually isn’t any truth to it.

The great thing for us West Ham fans is that Rice has never actually agitated for a move away from the club.

The proof really will be in the pudding next summer though.

The 23-year-old’s love for the Hammers is clear and obvious to see. And that may well be something that enables us to keep him beyond the summer of 2023.

Chelsea have been linked with Declan Rice for quite some time now though. Let’s just hope that the West Ham owners stand firm if and when a bid comes in for him.
