West Ham United could deal Tottenham Hotspur a big blow indeed in the January transfer window.

Fenerbahce ace Ismail Yuksek is a target for both West Ham and Tottenham in the January transfer window according to a report from Akşam.

Hammers boss David Moyes and Tottenham chief Ange Postecoglou are both clearly keen to bolster their respective defensive midfield ranks this winter.

West Ham have already been linked with a move to sign Valencia starlet Javi Guerra.

However, Yuksek would definitely be more attainable than the Spaniard – he’ll be a lot cheaper for a start.

And I strongly believe that the Hammers have a big advantage over Spurs in the race to sign the 10-capped Turkey international in January…

In my opinion, the 24-year-old defensive midfielder will have far more chances to play at the London Stadium than he will have for Spurs.

The only out-and-out defensive midfielder we have is Edson Alvarez. Meanwhile, Tottenham have five – Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp, Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

There is no way that Yuksek is getting into the Spurs starting XI ahead of those players as far as I’m concerned.

Meanwhile, he could be rotated with, and provide cover for, Alvarez at the London Stadium. His chances of playing regularly will go up tenfold if he picks the Hammers over Spurs.

And I think West Ham could deal a big blow to Tottenham in the January transfer window by signing Yuksek. He is a top-class player and would provide exceptionally strong competition for Alvarez.

In eight Super Lig outings for Fenerbahce this season, he has averaged 3.4 tackles, 2.4 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 1.8 successful aerial duels and 1.9 dribbles per game. He has made 64.5 passes per match on average and has recorded a mightily impressive completion rate of 89.3% (Who Scored).

He is a tremendous defensive midfielder and seems to have all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League. The Turkey international is strong in the challenge and has a really impressive engine. I reckon he’d be a great addition to Moyes’s ranks, and I genuinely feel like we’re in a better position to sign him than Tottenham are.
