Opinion: Liverpool will have huge regrets if West Ham manage to sign ‘incredible’ Fabio Carvalho in the summer

West Ham may well have a good chance of beating Liverpool to the signing of Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho in the summer.

Liverpool failed to get a deal to sign the Fulham youngster over the line on transfer deadline day in January.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was ready to pay £8 million for the 19-year-old but they failed to complete the necessary paperwork before the deadline passed (ESPN).

And that may well have opened the door for West Ham.

Hammers boss David Moyes wanted to bring Carvalho to the London Stadium in January according to The Sun, The Daily Mail and club insiders Claret and Hugh.

It looked like our hopes were over with the talented teen seemingly Anfield bound on deadline day. But West Ham have now been given another chance and we believe there are a couple of reasons why we could be in the box seat to win the race for his signature in the summer.

West Ham could beat Liverpool to Fabio Carvalho signing

After the Reds missed out on the £8 million ace, the Hammers owners and Moyes should do everything in their power to bring the Fulham ace to the London Stadium.

Carvalho will be available on a free transfer in the summer of course, and what an addition he would be for West Ham.

Football League World describe the 19-year-old as an incredible talent.

Carvalho has racked up 33 goals and 19 assists in 82 games for Fulham’s youth teams (Transfermarkt).

He has made a huge impression for the senior team at Craven Cottage as well with eight goals and five assists in 22 games this season (Transfermarkt).

The young attacker is most comfortable when playing on the number 10 position but he can also operate on either wing. He is incredibly gifted from a technical perspective and has all of the attributes needed to make it at the very highest level.

Now, at first glance, you may think that choosing to join Liverpool over West Ham is a no-brainer.

However, we strongly believe we have two very big advantages.

Firstly, the opportunity to join West Ham would enable Carvalho to remain in London. That is a huge thing for someone so young. Moving to the other end of the country at such a young age would be a huge upheaval. And the chance to remain in the capital may well be one that the teenager snaps up.

Secondly, there is no use Carvalho leaving Fulham to sit on the bench all season long. And that is probably what will happen if he moves to Liverpool.

Meanwhile, at West Ham, he would have a far greater chance of regular first-team football. David Moyes’s desperate attempts to sign Jesse Lingard over the past two transfer windows prove just how much the Hammers need another attacking midfielder/winger.

Carvalho would be a far better long-term option than Jesse. And a move to the London Stadium would be most beneficial for him at this stage of his career.

Who knows, in a couple of years he may well have the biggest clubs in world football after him. Carvalho could use us as a stepping stone. As crass as that may come across, it’s true.

We believe that the Hammers still have a good chance of beating Liverpool to his signature. And if we manage to sign him in the summer, the Reds may well end up regret not getting a deal done for him in January, because he will be worth a lot more than £8 million in a few year’s time, that’s for sure.
