West Ham boss David Moyes is allegedly eyeing up a summer move to sign Bartlomiej Dragowski from Fiorentina and that should be a worry for Alphonse Areola.
That’s according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb who claims that the 24-year-old goalkeeper’s new contract talks with Fiorentina have collapsed.
And as a result, the Serie A side will try to sell him in the summer.
Now, Dragowski is a very solid goalkeeper. In fact, Give Me Sport recently described him as a ‘brilliant’ goalkeeper.
Standing at 6ft 3in tall, the Pole cuts an imposing figure. He commands his penalty area with authority and is an impressive communicator. The 24-year-old is a pretty decent shot-stopper too.
Dragowski probably has at least 12 or 13 years left playing at the highest level. That makes the reported £10 million fee seem like very good value for money.
If West Ham are genuinely interested in signing the Fiorentina ace, it may well spell the end for Alphonse Areola at the London Stadium…
West Ham to send Areola back to PSG if Moyes signs Dragowski
We believe that if the Hammers boss genuinely wants to bring the Polish goalkeeper to the London Stadium then the French stopper’s time in the East End will be over in the summer.
The Hammers completed the signing of the 28-year-old goalkeeper on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window.
West Ham are believed to have an £11 million purchase option on the Frenchman as well (Wyn Foot).
Areola has played just one Premier League game for the Hammers. The PSG owned goalkeeper has played 11 times for West Ham in total. Those appearances have come in the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League as well as the league.
The Frenchman has conceded just seven goals during those outings and has kept six clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).
Areola is a top-class goalkeeper. It definitely seems as though Moyes isn’t entirely convinced by the Frenchman though.
Perhaps the Scot doesn’t believe that £11 million for the 28-year-old represents good enough value?
La Nazione recently claimed that Dragowski could be available for around £10 million. Considering the fact that the Fiorentina ace is four years younger than Areola, that would certainly represent better value for money for the Hammers.
But is Dragowski actually a better goalkeeper than Areola? That is the most important question that needs to be asked here and the honest answer in my opinion is that he isn’t in the same league as the Frenchman.
