Now even Brighton could be set to beat West Ham to striker target Odsonne Edouard claims report

West Ham United needed to be busy in the summer window to beef up David Moyes’s squad for a jam-packed season with European football.

But it has been deathly quiet on the West Ham front thus far.

Moyes desperately needs a striker, Jesse Lingard or an alternative, central midfield cover and a new centre-back.

So far, though, it seems the most likely new arrival will be a goalkeeper with moves in motion for Sam Johnstone and Alphonse Areola.

Who will be striker number 50 of the Sullivan and Gold era?

Since selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax in January for £20m, Moyes has been linked with a plethora of strikers. There is added focus given the fact the club’s next striker signing will be the 50th of the David Sullivan and David Gold era.

According to reports West Ham were interested in Ivan Toney, Patson Daka and Olivier Giroud among others.

But Toney is staying at Brentford while Daka moved to Leicester and Giroud to AC Milan.

Chelsea outcast Tammy Abraham is said to be Moyes’s prime target.

Now West Ham could even miss out to Brighton for striker target Edouard – reports

But West Ham have also been heavily linked with Celtic contract rebeal Odsonne Edouard.

The former PSG forward is out of contract at Celtic next summer and the £40m rated player could be snapped up for half the price.

West Ham looked set to miss out to Leicester for Edouard. But they signed Daka instead.

And now reports claim Brighton could be set to win the race for the Frenchman.

The likes of The Daily Record and The Express claim Brighton have officially registered their interest with Celtic.

The reports claim they will use some of the £50m they are set to receive from selling Ben White to Arsenal to fund the deal.

West Ham must beat Seagulls to forward if he really is a Moyes target

If West Ham are genuinely interested in Edouard – as reports have claimed for the best part of six months – then missing out to Brighton could seriously trigger a backlash from fans frustrated by the club’s lack of transfer activity.

The Hammers have the London ace card, a 60,000-seater stadium and European football to offer. So it will raise serious question marks if the likes of Brighton are beating the Irons to players.

All eyes will be on Celtic’s squad for tonight’s crucial Champions League clash against Danish side Midtjylland.

If the 24-year-old is not in the squad, many will see it as a sure sign he is on his way out of Celtic Park even if he has been reportedly struggling with injury of late.
