Newcastle could hurt West Ham yet again with Eddie Howe trying to sign 20-year-old in the January transfer window

Newcastle reportedly could be set to deal yet another blow to West Ham United in the January transfer window.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, both Newcastle and West Ham are expected to be very busy indeed, with both clubs in desperate need of signing a centre-forward.

Toon boss Eddie Howe and Hammers manager David Moyes are currently very light indeed in the centre-forward department.

And Newcastle could be set to deal us a big blow once again after prising Harrison Ashby from our grasp in January of this year, and beating us to the signing of Harvey Barnes in the summer.

This time, the Magpies could beat us to the signing of Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, according to a report from TEAMtalk.

The 20-year-old forward is a real talent, so Newcastle’s reported interest in signing him is far from ideal for West Ham…

Newcastle could scupper West Ham’s January transfer window plan

The young Brazilian has everything needed to succeed in the Premier League, and the Hammers have been linked with a move to sign the ‘new Neymar’ on numerous occasions in the past.

Unfortunately for us though, Newcastle are a lot better placed to sign him than we are, what with the Champions League football they have on offer at St James’ Park and a the fact that they should be pushing for a top four finish again this season.

Missing out on Leonardo would be a real shame for West Ham, and we should have moved a lot sooner to bring him to the London Stadium.

The highly talented 20-year-old has bagged a really impressive return of 21 goals and four assists in 45 games for Santos so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Leonardo is incredibly strong, possesses superbly impressive skill and has a penchant for the spectacular. He’s hard-working as well though, so it’s easy to see why Moyes might want to sign him.

With the Brazilian campaign set to end in December, there’s a good chance he will be able to leave Santos this winter.

It’s just such a shame that Newcastle chasing the South American striker will make it almost impossible for us to sign him in the January transfer window.
