A new striker and defender will arrive before the January transfer deadline if West Ham get their way in next seven days.

If it wasn’t already, one thing has become abundantly clear this week – West Ham are not done in the transfer window.

As reported on Hammers News last week, the signing of striker Danny Ings was not the end of West Ham’s striker hunt.

And it certainly isn’t now news has emerged that the new arrival has – all too predictably – picked up an injury less than 24 hours after being unveiled by West Ham.

With Craig Dawson saying an emotional goodbye to West Ham having signed for relegation rivals Wolves, a new defender is very much on the cards too.

Let’s face it, David Moyes will be dicing with danger if they do not sign another forward and a replacement for Dawson.

A win over hapless Everton should fool absolutely nobody at the club into a false sense of security. Because make no mistake West Ham are in this relegation battle until the end of the season.

The good news is that West Ham boss Moyes and the board are thinking along the same lines.

As carried by Hammers News last night, a West Ham board ITK reporter has claimed that the club has ‘multiple active bids’ in for targets.

And Moyes wants a striker and defender signed before next Tuesday’s deadline.

In an ideal world fans would want to see young, pacy, modern full-backs brought in as well – something that should have been a priority in the summer.

But that may have to wait.

The Hammers have been linked with a host of targets up front and in defence including Terem Moffi and Michael Keane.

A deal for the Nigerian forward looks increasingly unlikely. And while Keane is said to want a move to West Ham, he will arrive seriously unfancied by the club’s fans.

That being said, most West Ham fans were not keen on Dawson when he arrived on loan from Watford. And he proved all of us wrong.

It promises to be an exciting final week of the window with plenty riding on it.

And it seems a new striker and defender will arrive before deadline if West Ham get their way in next seven days.
