Millwall could inadvertently help West Ham sign Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara as a source makes a claim about a summer deal.

West Ham United reportedly now want to sign 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder Sara from Norwich City in the summer transfer window.

Providing they can stay up themselves, West Ham are facing another busy summer window following their disastrous Premier League season.

Fortunately for the Hammers, nine clubs are currently involved in one of the tightest relegation battles for years.

Meanwhile bitter rivals Millwall are enjoying a fine season and are in the running to join West Ham in the Premier League.

The 1988–89 season is the only campaign both West Ham and Millwall have been in the top division of English football at the same time.

And with the Hammers establishing themselves as one of the core Premier League clubs bar a couple of relegations over the last 30 years, that statistic has remained unchallenged.

With work to do in the window, West Ham are already being linked with a host of players – one of them being Sara.

According to a report from Sunday Mirror (print edition March 12th, page 71), David Moyes wants to bring the 23-year-old Norwich star to the London Stadium in the summer.

Sara is a real talent and has been a big hit with the Canaries since moving to Carrow Road from Sao Paulo for around £11 million in the summer of 2022 (The Mirror).

Now it seems West Ham’s oldest and fiercest rivals could end up doing them a massive favour.

According to sources speaking to Football Insider, Norwich will listen to offers from West Ham and other interested clubs in the summer if they are not promoted back to the Premier League.

And right now Millwall are keeping the Canaries out of the play-off spots in their bid to return to the top flight.

Millwall have a five-point cushion over Norwich in what looks set to be a race between seven clubs for three attainable play-off spots.

Football Insider claims Norwich will sell Sara if they fail to go up. And the report also claims he is now West Ham’s top midfield target.

The irony of Millwall potentially playing a big hand in helping that deal happen will not be lost on fans of both clubs.

In a further little twist to the tale, Sara actually scored what turned out to be the winner in a five-goal thriller for Norwich against Millwall earlier this month.
