There could be a medical today for the fifth West Ham signing of the summer claims a journalist as David Moyes closes in on Maxwel Cornet.
West Ham are looking to seriously beef up their left-hand side, especially after Moyes sanctioned the departure of Arthur Masuaku this week.
One of the players West Ham have been pursuing is reportedly Burnley’s Cornet.
The likes of The Guardian reported that West Ham had made an official offer for the ex Lyon man but faced competition from Everton, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.
The Hammers had been trying to get Cornet for a fee lower than his reported £17.5m release clause.
“West Ham are trying to negotiate a lower fee with Burnley, which could open up the prospect of them being beaten to the signing of Cornet by a rival club,” The Guardian reported.
“However they are leading the race to sign the former Lyon player.”
Then in a transfer update on Sky Sports News yesterday, it was reported that West Ham could look to strike a an initial loan deal with an option to buy which would become an obligation to buy should certain conditions be met.
Since then it has been reported that West Ham have agreed a fee on a permanent move for the 25-year-old, who scored nine goals and laid on one assist in 21 starts for Burnley last season (Football.London).
And there could be a medical today for the fifth West Ham signing of the summer claims a journalist as Moyes closes in on Cornet.
According to French journalist Fabrice Hawkins – as also reported by Get French Football News – Cornet has agreed to join West Ham with negotiations set to be finalised and a medical could be set for as early as today (Thursday) in London for the Ivorian winger.
It seems Moyes very much means business.
Cornet would become the fifth summer signing and fourth new face in the West Ham squad from last season.
West Ham continue to be linked with Filip Kostic and Amadou Onana.
Moyes has been explaining this week why West Ham struggle to compete with rival clubs to get transfer deals done early in the window.
