Manchester United are apparently close to signing Cody Gakpo, and the claim is a crushing blow for West Ham United.
Football journalist Rudy Galetti claims that Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is insistent on bringing Gakpo to Old Trafford, and his club are close to ‘defining an agreement’ for the Dutch attacker.
However, with Manchester United now closing in on Gakpo, signing him may well be mission impossible for West Ham.

Moyes desperately needs to bolster his attacking ranks at West Ham even further still. It seems as though Gakpo is off the table though…
Manchester United close to Cody Gakpo signing
The Hammers face a seriously tough task if we are to sign the Dutchman. In fact, it could be classed as an impossible one.
Rudy Galetti suggests that Man United are close to securing the signing of Gakpo ahead of the January transfer window.
He could be available for around £34 million (The Telegraph).
We would have absolutely loved to see Gakpo at West Ham. He’s a terrific young talent with a really high ceiling but it will now be back to the drawing board for Moyes.
Gakpo has been described as a ‘sensational’ player by well-renowned Twitter account Dutch Football.
He has also been labelled as ‘superb’ by football journalist Josh Bunting. Meanwhile, One Football have called him a ‘world-class winger’.
He bagged a brilliant 21 goals and 14 assists in 47 games in all competitions for PSV last season (Transfermarkt).
This season, he has racked up an amazing 13 goals and 16 assists in 22 games (Transfermarkt).

In the main, Gakpo is a right-footed left winger.
However, the seven-capped Holland international can play anywhere along the front line, and has pace and technical ability in abundance. He plays with a real sense of directness that West Ham have desperately lacked recently.
The PSV star stands at 6ft 2in tall, so he should be more than capable of coping with the physicality of Premier League football.
Cody Gakpo would have been a great signing for West Ham but it seems as though Manchester United will be welcoming him to Old Trafford imminently.
And that will be a huge shame for the Hammers.
