Major Oleksandr Zinchenko boost for West Ham as Man City eye deal for new left-back with bid for Marc Cucurella

There has been a major Oleksandr Zinchenko boost for West Ham United as Man City eye a deal for new a left-back.

West Ham boss David Moyes wants to bring Manchester City full-back Zinchenko to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window according to widespread reports – most recently from The Mirror.

Left-back is one of the key areas Moyes must strengthen this summer in a big West Ham rebuild.

Arthur Masuaku is not a defender and is not in Moyes’s plans while Aaron Cresswell endured a very poor second half of the season last term.

West Ham were given encouragement in the last few days when The Athletic reported that Arsenal – who had also been linked with a move for the Man City defender – had dropped out of the running.

Another area of the pitch where West Ham desperately need new blood is central midfield.

And The Mirror claims that the Hammers are set to offer 25-year-old Man City left-back Zinchenko the chance to play there at times should he sign.

Now there has been a major Zinchenko boost for West Ham as Man City eye a deal for a new left-back with a bid for Marc Cucurella.

According to the likes of The Guardian, Man City – who will play West Ham in the first game of the new season – are poised to bid for Brighton’s Cucurella, their top target at left-back.

“Pep Guardiola is determined to sign his fellow Catalan after being impressed by his performances in the Premier League,” The Guardian states.

“Brighton stand to make a sizeable profit if they sell Cucurella, who joined for £15.4m and wept tears of joy after scoring his first goal for the club in May’s 4-0 win over Manchester United.”

Man City boss Guardiola knows Cucurella well as he came through Barcelona’s youth system at La Masia.

With Brighton allegedly planning to sign Porto left-back Zaidu to replace the swashbuckling Cucurella, the Man City move looks very much on.

And that can surely only be good news for West Ham’s interest in Zinchenko.

The Ukraine international was a revelation in midfield for his country during recent internationals – destroying Scotland during their World Cup play-off.

His versatility would be a huge asset for the Hammers if they can get him to the London Stadium.
