A Ligue 1 central midfield ace linked with West Ham now looks set for Italy as Jose Mourinho aims to trump David Moyes.
It has been widely publicised that Moyes wants to add another central midfielder to his squad this summer following Mark Noble’s retirement and the departure of Alex Kral.
Flynn Downes has arrived in a £12m deal as back-up to Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

And West Ham have been linked with a host of others including Amadou Onana, Orel Mangala and former Liverpool man Georginio Wijnaldum.
West Ham have seen two bids rejected for Lille’s Onana and a third has gone unanswered.
And Mangala looks set to sign for Nottingham Forest.

90min claimed last month that PSG are ready to sell Dutchman Wijnaldum after just one year in the French capital with West Ham among a number of Premier League clubs keeping close tabs on the situation.
Football Insider also claimed West Ham would have the edge in signing the midfielder.
But it seems the Hammers may have to forget about Wijnaldum and redouble their efforts elsewhere instead.

Because the Ligue 1 central midfield ace linked with West Ham now looks set for Italy as Jose Mourinho aims to trump Moyes.
And the bad news for West Ham is that Wijnaldum is said to be in a real hurry to complete a move to Roma.
That’s according to reports in Italy from Il Corriere dello Sport and Football Italia.
The alleged West Ham target, who also played for Newcastle in the Premier League, is not in new PSG boss Christophe Gaultier’s plans.

Il Corriere dello Sport report he is keen on a move to Roma and would like the deal to be sorted out quickly.
Reports suggest Roma believe they can land the midfielder on a loan to buy deal whereby he is free of charge and with half of his salary paid by the Parisians for the first season.
However, the report adds Premier League sides are still interested in landing Wijnaldum.

Ligue 1 central midfield ace linked with West Ham now looks set for Italy – but it’s no bad thing
It would be no great shame if West Ham don’t sign the Dutchman.
Yes he is clearly a quality player. But he is on massive wages at PSG and turns 32 next season so hardly fits the Red Bull recruitment model being implemented by Moyes and Rob Newman at the London Stadium.
Let him join Jose in Rome and let’s focus on young, hungry talent such as Onana.
That is definitely the way forward.
