David Moyes ended an 18-month search for a new striker when West Ham signed Italy forward Scamacca for £35m from Sassuolo.
It has been a slow burn for Scamacca in the Premier League so far. Moyes has been drip-feeding him into the English game as the 23-year-old did not get a pre-season with Sassuolo.
Scamacca impressed up front for Italy in a 1-0 win over West Ham teammate Declan Rice’s England last night.
West Ham fans are eager to see him leading the line for them and so to it seems was PSG and France star Mbappe.
For those not following events across The Channel, there are reports of serious bad blood between Mbappe and fellow PSG star Neymar.
When signing his new deal with the Paris club, Mbappe was allegedly given a big say on signings, management and the running of the team.
As West Ham fans will know, the Hammers beat PSG to the signing of Scamacca in the summer.
There remains unrest between Mbappe and Neymar at PSG.
After helping Brazil to a 3-0 win over Ghana on Friday night alongside West Ham star Lucas Paqueta, Neymar was asked about his relationship with Mbappe.
The legendary star asked: “Kylian?” before puffing out a sigh and walking off.
Now L’Equipe claim angry Mbappe was promised West Ham star Scamacca as a Neymar replacement by new PSG chief Luis Campos.
According to L’Equipe, Mbappe was promised a striker like Scamacca to effectively do the donkey work up front and allow him more freedom in attack.
It not only goes to show just how highly regarded West Ham’s new striker is across Europe.
But it also perhaps proves Scamacca was right to make the move to east London instead of PSG, despite the latter clearly being a much bigger and more illustrious club.
The Italian would have been nothing more than a kicking post for the opposition while Mbappe swanned around the pitch doing as he pleases if the reports are correct.
According to L’Equipe‘s Loic Tanzi, Campos did have plans to bring in a striker to the club, and he made clear to Kylian Mbappe that he was going to do so. But as Campos did not end up bringing in Scamacca or an alternative, manager Christophe Galtier has had to switch up the tactical plans for the team this season, which Mbappe is “not happy” about.
“There are two things,” Tanzi said on the L’ÉQUIPE de Greg program.
“The first is that compared to PSG, yes he is in a position today where he was not promised to play. He was waiting, and Luis Campos said the same thing, a striker like Olivier Giroud, like Gianluca Scamacca or Robert Lewandowski for example. A striker of this type had to come to PSG to allow Mbappe to be a little more free behind the striker.
“This was what was promised to him, with the departure of Neymar. Normally, this is what was planned in the ideal at Paris Saint-Germain. The second thing is that it’s not going to be a problem because he accepted today. He is not happy about it, but he has accepted and he will do it until the end of the season for Paris Saint-Germain.”
