Manuel Lanzini is still a very important player at West Ham, and may well stay at the London Stadium beyond the end of the January transfer window.

That’s according to football journalist Dean Jones who told Give Me Sport that he is seen as a senior leader amongst the Hammers squad.

Football Insider claimed earlier this week that West Ham could sell Lanzini for £10 million in the January transfer window.

In addition to that, the 29-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from the London Stadium over the past year or so with talk of a move back to his boyhood club River Plate refusing to go away.

Lanzini is out of contract at the end of the season, but West Ham have the option to extend that deal by a further two years.

And it seems as though the diminutive Argentine could be set to hang around for a while longer yet…

Manuel Lanzini could well stay at West Ham

Dean Jones spoke to Give Me Sport about Lanzini, and responded when asked whether he thinks the 29-year-old will be moved on in the January transfer window:

He has been leading them in the Europa Conference League and that is important. From a West Ham point of view, they need that depth and he’s provided it. He has been very important in that competition.

Lanzini was signed for around £9 million on a permanent deal six years ago (The Mirror), having spent the 2015/16 campaign on loan at Upton Park.

The Argentinian ace actually returned to somewhere near his best for the Hammers last season, having spent a few years in the doldrums after suffering a serious knee injury in 2018.

Lanzini is a hugely popular figure at the London Stadium. He really does seem to love the club and the fans love him as well.

I actually think that the Hammers star would be better of used as a deep-lying midfielder, from where he can dictate the tempo of the game.

Manuel Lanzini still has a role to play at West Ham, even if it is a bit-part one.

And I wouldn’t be surprised one little bit to see him stay at the London Stadium for another one or two years before returning to River Plate.
