Wolves are reportedly well aware that they can sign Craig Dawson from West Ham United in the January transfer window.

Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that the 32-year-old Hammers defenders isn’t a priority for Wolves, but Julen Lopetegui could still bring him to Molineux this winter.

Wolves tried to sign Dawson for around £5 million in the summer transfer window, but David Moyes chose to keep him at the London Stadium in the end after failing to get a replacement in.

Dawson is allegedly still keen to move closer to his family in the north of England though, so an exit from West Ham in January would hardly be surprising.

And Wolves are being mentioned again as potential suitors for the centre-back…

Wolves still linked with Craig Dawson move

Dean Jones told Give Me Sport that the Black Country outfit are well aware that they can sign the 32-year-old West Ham ace, if they wish to:

I don’t know that the Craig Dawson link is going to particularly be one of the priorities in terms of looking for a British player. Dawson’s been on their profile for a while and they know there might be the potential to get that deal done.

As sad as it would be to Leo Dawson, perhaps we should just let him leave in January. He clearly doesn’t want to be at West Ham any more.

And if we could get a decent fee from Wolves, it will be better to move him on now, rather than losing him for nothing in the summer.

David Moyes will obviously have to get a replacement signed before allowing Dawson to leave though.

He originally joined the Hammers on a season-long loan from Watford in October 2020. West Ham then made his move to the London Stadium a permanent one for a further £3 million in the summer of 2021 (The Sun).

Daws has established himself as a cult hero at West Ham but he’s actually a lot more than that. He’s a very good good defender, and labelling him as a cult hero really doesn’t do him justice.

Should Craig Dawson join Wolves in January, he will undoubtedly be a very solid addition for them. And losing him will be a big blow for West Ham, but perhaps an unpreventable one at the same time.
