Newcastle could be set to challenge West Ham for Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic in the January transfer window.

That’s according to a report from The Sunday Post (11/12, back page) who claim that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe wants to bring the 27-year-old defender to St James’ Park.

Now, that will be a huge problem for West Ham, with David Moyes allegedly eyeing a move to bring the Croatia international to the London Stadium (The Scottish Sun).

And Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is allegedly prepared to sell Juranovic for around £10 million in the January transfer window.

The right-back has really impressed for Croatia at the World Cup out in Qatar.

So it’s little wonder why he’s such a hot commodity at the moment. And it seems as though two Premier League clubs could be battling it out for his signature this winter…

Newcastle want to sign West Ham target in January transfer window

The Sunday Post reckon that the Toon are now on Juranovic’s tail ahead of the winter window.

His performances for Croatia out in Qatar have been described as ‘unbelievable’ by The Celtic Star.

Initially, I thought that West Ham should have been aiming a lot higher than the Celtic defender.

He has totally proven me wrong out in Qatar with Croatia though. His performance against Brazil in the quarter-final on Friday was truly sensational.

Juranovic has been a really solid performer for Celtic this season as well.

The 27-year-old has bagged one goal and one assist in eight Scottish Premiership games for Celtic so far this season (Who Scored).

During those outings, he has averaged 1.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and one clearance per game (Who Scored).

The Croatian is a very solid operator, and he has mightily impressive pace as well.

£10 million for Josip Juranovic now sounds like really good value for either the Hammers or the Magpies.

If Newcastle do make a move to sign the Celtic star in the January transfer window though, Moyes may well have his work cut-out.
