Filip Kostic claim emerges and but everyone seems to be ignoring the obvious issue he’ll bring to West Ham

West Ham United are back in for long-term transfer target Filip Kostic once again it seems.

Filip Kostic was heavily tipped to join West Ham way back in January 2022 when David Moyes was in charge at the London Stadium.

The former Hammers boss persistently tried to bring him to the club in pretty much every transfer window after that, right up until the 2024 January window.

And now Julen Lopetegui seems to have picked up the baton passed to him by Moyes, with a mooted move to sign the Juventus star.

The Spaniard is working tirelessly alongside Tim Steidten to strengthen his squad at the London Stadium this summer.

Lopetegui needs to strengthen his group in pretty much every single department, if he is to oversee some genuine progress at the club.

The left side of the pitch is definitely one area that requires urgent attention, and Kostic seems to be an option for West Ham.

He’s an elite player on his day, but there’s a big issue as far as I’m concerned…

Filip Kostic to West Ham claim emerges

The Hammers are on the market for a versatile left sided player this summer – someone who can operate as a left-back, a wing-back or even a winger if need be.

According to Tutto Juve, West Ham have been told to pay £8.5 million for Juventus ace Kostic this summer.

The 31-year-old has actually struggled at times with Juve since joining the Turin giants back in 2022, but he’s obviously still a top-class player.

Here’s the big issue I have with this deal though, if the 63-capped Serbia international does indeed end up at the London Stadium.

Lopetegui desperately needs to bring in some proper competition and cover for Emerson Palmieri this summer.

The Italy international has been brilliant for the Hammers over the past year or so, but he’ll be 30 in August, and Lopetegui needs to sign some with youth on his side to challenge him.

Kostic, as good as he is, will be 32 in November, and he’s arguably already on the downward curve of his career.

I would much prefer to see Lopetegui sign someone like Real Betis left-back Juan Miranda or Fenerbahce star Ferdi Kadioglu this summer.

That said, if Filip Kostic does join West Ham for £8.5 million this year, he wouldn’t be a bad signing for us, especially if he’s only handed a two-year deal.
