Ex West Ham assistant manager Alan Irvine spotted watching striker Ben Brereton-Diaz for David Moyes

Ex West Ham United assistant manager Alan Irvine has been spotted watching striker Ben Brereton-Diaz for David Moyes.

West Ham have been a striker light since Sebastien Haller was sold in January last year.

And it is Moyes’s top priority to address that issue in the summer window having failed to get a new forward to West Ham since Haller’s departure.

The Hammers have got away with having Michail Antonio as their only senior striker as he has enjoyed one of the most injury-free campaigns of his entire career and Jarrod Bowen has weighed in with 16 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

Moyes reportedly tried to sign Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez in January and West Ham have been linked with a plethora of others too.

One of those is Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton-Diaz.

And according to a new report, ex West Ham assistant manager Irvine has been spotted watching striker Brereton-Diaz for Moyes.

It is well known that Moyes likes to have transfer targets watched live a number of times before making decisions on whether to try and bring them to West Ham.

And it seems his interest in Brereton-Diaz is genuine after The Daily Star claimed Irvine – who stepped down as Moyes’s assistant last season to move into a consultancy role – has been watching him on his fellow Scot’s behalf.

“The Blackburn star has been in incredible form this year as Rovers make an unlikely push for the Premier League.

“West Ham scout Alan Irvine has been watching the Chile international, who will enter the final year of his contract next season. The Ewood Park outfit know they might have to sell and have priced the 23-year-old at £15million…

“Moyes is a big fan of Brereton Diaz after his fine campaign in the Championship after scoring 22 times.

“He also appreciates the forward’s versatility, being able to play as a No. 9 or across the wide positions as well.”

He would give West Ham something completely different to Antonio.

Moyes has said he will always look to pick off top young Championship talent. Irvine is one of the West Ham manager’s most trusted allies in football.

We will get a big indication as to what Irvine thought of Brereton-Diaz from his scouting missions when the summer window opens next month.
