‘Everyone knows that’: West Ham allegedly lead race to sign 29-year-old Premier League ace in January

West Ham are leading Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Everton centre-back Michael Keane in the January transfer window.

That’s according to football journalist Paul Brown who told Give Me Sport that the Hammers are currently favourites to sign the 29-year-old Everton defender.

David Moyes will be desperate to bolster his centre-back ranks at the London Stadium in January, with ongoing injury concerns hindering Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd.

In addition to that, Craig Dawson is being heavily linked with a move away from West Ham this winter.

West Ham began the season in fine shape defensively, although we have started leaking goals for fun. That will be a huge concern to Moyes.

And it seems as though the Scot is ready to try and address that particular issue…

West Ham leading January Michael Keane race

The Hammers are well-placed to prise the 29-year-old centre-back from Goodison Park this winter.

Paul Brown told Give Me Sport that Keane could be London Stadium bound in the January transfer window:

I just think everyone knows that, because he’s not getting a game really for Everton, he could be on the market. I think Michael Keane’s decided that he’s going to have to move to get more football, so I think he’s going to go somewhere and West Ham, I would say, are favourites at the moment.

I have to say, this one hardly fills me with excitement!

There are so many better defenders available out there. I thought Moyes didn’t like signing players for the sake of it? I thought he’d prefer to wait further down the line to get a player he actually wants rather than just put a band aid over the wound so to speak?

Signing Keane from Everton would be the epitome of a panic buy.

The 29-year-old is slow and cumbersome and really is very poor when in possession of the football.

He is strong in the air and the tackle but his skillset is limited to say the least.

West Ham signing Michael Keane from Everton in the January transfer window would be incredibly underwhelming. And in my opinion, it would represent a real backward step for the Hammers.
