A direct link to the Harvey Barnes camp could give West Ham the edge for the coveted star just as it did Flynn Downes.

West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for flying attacker Harvey Barnes following his relegation with Leicester City.

Earlier this week it was claimed by journalist Matt Law that West Ham were leading the race for £40m rated Barnes.

Then The Guardian stated the Hammers want to wrap up a deal to sign the 25-year-old England international as soon as possible.

Other Premier League clubs have also been linked with Barnes including Spurs and Newcastle.

But a direct link to the Barnes camp could give West Ham the edge for the coveted star just as it did Flynn Downes last summer.

West Ham fans who followed last summer’s window closely will know that Downes had looked set to join London rivals Crystal Palace. So much so he had even taken part in a Palace photoshoot.

But West Ham swooped to steal him from under the Eagles’ beaks at the 11th hour.

The Swansea Independent highlighted at the time that West Ham assistant coach Mark Warburton played a big role in swaying the deal with his links to the Wasserman agency.

Warburton-Wasserman links helped Hammers steal Downes and same agency represents Barnes

Warburton’s daughter works on the client side of the firm which just so happens to represent Barnes too.

So that could be one of the big reasons West Ham are said to be leading the race despite the interest from elsewhere.

The signing of Barnes would be fantastic for the Hammers. He is exactly the profile of player the club should be targeting.

But his arrival could be bad news for one man in particular, according to reports.

It is being claimed in the press that Maxwel Cornet could be sold after just two starts in an injury hit season since arriving from Burnley for £17.5m.
