David Moyes deciding not to sign Rico Henry for just £5 million has made him look foolish

David Moyes had a great chance to sign Rico Henry for West Ham United from Brentford in the summer of 2021.

It was claimed at the time that the Hammers boss could have picked up the Brentford left-back up for just £5 million.

However, Moyes decided against a move to sign Henry because he allegedly felt that he was too small, according to the likes of ExWHUemployee.

At the time, that reason seemed to be absolutely ridiculous. Of all the positions on the pitch, full-back is one where you don’t actually have to be physically big to succeed in the Premier League.

Rico Henry has gone on to prove that he is a superb player with Brentford in the Premier League.

And not signing him now looks like an incredibly stupid decision from Moyes…

The 25-year-old has been absolutely brilliant for the Bees since their return to the top flight.

He is light years ahead of Aaron Cresswell, and would have made the Hammers so much of a better team all round.

Henry bagged three goals in 34 Premier League appearances last season. During those outings, he averaged one tackle, one interception and 1.6 clearances per match (Who Scored).

The 25-year-old has improved in all of those categories during his 18 Premier League appearances for Brentford this season.

Henry is powerful, has pace in abundance and is incredibly athletic. The way that he gets up and down the left hand flank for the Bees is really impressive to watch.

What a huge difference he would have made to this West Ham team.

Aaron Cresswell is absolutely finished at Premier League level. He really shouldn’t be anywhere near this Hammers team.

The 33-year-old is costing us dearly on a consistent basis, and he is clearly a player who our opponents target.

David Moyes will surely now be regretting the fact that he didn’t sign Rico Henry from Brentford. In fact, his decision not to bring him to the London Stadium now looks rather foolish.
