Darren Ambrose says Spurs and West Ham have already made the signings of the season regardless of what happens before the transfer deadline.

There may be no love lost between rivals West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur but they share a lot in common this summer.

The Hammers and Spurs have both lost their homegrown heroes Declan Rice and Harry Kane.

Pundits and rival fans have doubted West Ham and Tottenham’s ability to not only replace their talismanic stars but progress without them.

And in many respects both West Ham and Tottenham had been written off before a ball had even been kicked this season.

They’re both defying the doubters thus far, though. West Ham replaced Spurs at the top of the fledgling table on goal difference with their 3-1 win over Brighton before they were deposed by Man City.

And new signings are shining under David Moyes and Ange Postecoglou.

West Ham and Tottenham look set to do more business before Friday’s transfer deadline. And there will undoubtedly be a late flurry of activity across the Premier League.

But Darren Ambrose says Spurs and West Ham have already made the signings of the season regardless of what happens before the transfer deadline.

The ex Tottenham star turned pundit was assessing the transfer window on Sky Sports’ Transfer Show.

And he says Tottenham’s £40m capture of James Maddison and West Ham’s signing of James Ward-Prowse are hands down the best bits of business of the summer transfer window.

“I think James Maddison is the bargain of the summer,” Ambrose said on The Transfer Show at 7.35pm on August 28th.

“James Maddison and James Ward-Prowse at West Ham – that’s two players I’ve picked out that are the absolute signings of the summer at the moment.

“Just to see even the bit of banter he (Maddison) had with the Bournemouth fans the other day with the corner and moving it out – it’s refreshing. To have a player like James Maddison – we’ve (Spurs) been crying out for that since Christian Eriksen left.”

Ambrose is not the only one to pick Ward-Prowse out as one of the signings of the window.

talkSPORT pundit Gabby Abonglahor says West Ham have made the best signing of the summer in the dead ball specialist and Arsenal the worst.
