Aston Villa look set to deal a final hammer blow to West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

West Ham and Villa have been intrinsically linked already this summer, with Julen Lopetegui plotting a move to sign Villans hitman Jhon Duran.

Meanwhile, the Villans have been plotting moves for some of the Hammers’ transfer targets, including Youssef En-Nesyri, Raoul Bellanova and most recently Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo.

Now Unai Emery could be set to deal a big blow to West Ham once again.

Lopetegui has numerous transfer targets in mind this summer, and one area he definitely needs to improve is his central midfield department.

The Hammers head coach needs to add more power, pace, athleticism and dynamism to his engine room.

The addition of someone who can play alongside Edson Alvarez in a box-to-box role will be a necessity, if Lopetegui is to oversee some genuine progress at the London Stadium.

The perfect player for us is out there, currently playing for one of our Premier League rivals.

However, Aston Villa could be about to blow us out the water.

Aston Villa move for West Ham target Amadou Onana

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Aston Villa are closing in on a deal to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

Villa signing the Belgian would be a really big blow for the Hammers. After missing out on Onana in the summer of 2022, former West Ham boss David Moyes tried to bring him to the London Stadium again in 2023, unsuccessfully of course.

The 22-year-old powerhouse midfielder has absolutely everything that’s required to succeed in the Premier League.

Onana has tremendous strength, incredible stamina and the kind of athleticism that West Ham are crying out for in midfield.

What’s more, he possesses all of the attributes that the Hammers currently lack in the middle of the park.

Really, not paying the Belgium international what he demanded back in the summer of 2022 was the death knell for West Ham.

It felt like our chances of signing the midfielder at some point in the future all but ended when he joined Everton.

However, the the coup de grace for West Ham could well be Aston Villa making a formal £50 million bid for Amadou Onana.

There is absolutely no way that we will be able to match that kind of offer unfortunately.

And if Villa do sign Onana, it will be a sign that they are operating on a completely different level to us at the moment.
