Conflicting Jhon Duran to West Ham transfer claim emerges as Fabrizio Romano spills the beans

So the Jhon Duran to West Ham United summer transfer saga has just taken another twist it seems.

Jhon Duran emerged as a target for West Ham earlier this week, and it was claimed that we had lodged a £35 million bid for the 20-year-old – one that included a 10% sell-on clause.

The former Envigado and Chicago Fire hitman is clearly one of the priority transfer targets for Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui in the summer transfer window.

The Hammers actually wanted to sign the 11-capped Colombia international back in 2023, before he joined Aston Villa.

Signing a top-class centre-forward before the start of the new season should be the main priority for Lopetegui now, and it undoubtedly is.

If the Spaniard gets the striker signing spot on, West Ham could be a real problem for every single team in the Premier League next season.

Duran seems to be the man who Lopetegui has settled on. However, a new claim has been made today regarding the transfer saga…

Conflicting Jhon Duran to West Ham transfer claim emerges

The Colombia international clearly has absolutely everything needed to succeed at the very highest level of the game.

I would love him at West Ham, but the latest noise regarding a potential deal for the Villa ace is slightly worrying if you ask me.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update to Give Me Sport about the Hammers’ pursuit of Duran.

The Italian football journalist has lifted the lid on the current transfer saga, and shared some conflicting information to what we’ve heard recently.

“For Jhon Duran, Aston Villa always wanted something around £40 million. So let’s see if maybe with some add-ons, they can reach an agreement and get the deal done,” Romano said.

He continued, “The player already said yes to West Ham, he is attracted by the possibility of working under Julen Lopetegui. So for sure, Jhon Duran-West Ham is a concrete possibility.”

I’m not sure we’ll be paying anything like £40 million for him.

It has already been claimed that the Hammers could get a discount on the £35 million we’ve already bid for the Colombian, if we increase the sell-on clause percentage.

I think he’d actually be perfect for us. If the club manage to secure a reasonably price deal for the 20-year-old, signing him this summer will be a no-brainer.

His performance against Liverpool at the end of last season was described as ‘extraordinary’ by The Sun.

Jhon Duran is incredibly strong in the air, possesses impressive pace and always occupies opposing defenders – something that’s a prerequisite for any striker who plays under West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui.

Let’s hope that the Hammers strike a deal for the Villa striker soon. I wouldn’t want us to be paying anything like £40 million for him though – that really would be a huge investment in someone who is far from the finished article.
