There is utter confusion over West Ham’s move for Arnaut Danjuma after contrasting new claims from Fabrizio Romano and a Hammers insider.

The Guardian first revealed West Ham are seriously interested in Dutch forward Danjuma earlier this week.

And it is an understatement to say there has been claim and counter claim since about West Ham’s alleged move to sign the former Bournemouth attacker.

he Hammers were linked with Danjuma – who can play on both wings and is often used as a striker by Villarreal – before he left Bournemouth for Spain (The Sun).

The move did not materialise and Danjuma has been a huge hit at the Yellow Submarine, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 23 games last season.

To add fuel to the transfer window rumour mill flames, Danjuma said in a recent interview that he would love to return to England again one day and still has family here.

Last month Danjuma’s agent Michale Moses told Radio Castellon a move could well be on the cards this summer.

“There is a 50 per cent chance that Danjuma will leave this summer,” Moses told Radio Castellon as transcribed by Football Espana.

Yahoo Sport claim the fee Villarreal want from West Ham for Danjuma is ‘expected to be around £38m’.

Things have seriously ramped up in terms of speculation overnight.

Yesterday evening The Daily Mail claimed West Ham had held ‘more positive talks’ over the move.

Then this morning 90min claimed the Hammers have made an ‘official approach’ to Villarreal. There was even talk a deal could be done ‘within hours or days’.

But just as some West Ham fans started to get excited about the prospect of signing the Dutch international, things may not be as they seem.

A West Ham insider has told Claret and Hugh that the Hammers are not in for Danjuma as Moyes is ‘not convinced’ by the player.

“West Ham are not currently progressing in talks to sign Arnaut Danjuma, with boss David Moyes not convinced by the player,” an insider told Claret and Hugh.

Talksport made a similar claim too.

Then transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confused matters further by insisting West Ham have been in talks with Villarreal for some time but are struggling to agree personal terms with the player himself.

“Personal terms are the real issue for Danjuma deal,” Romano said on Twitter.

“West Ham have been in talks with Villarreal for weeks on €40m (£35m) fee but still not even close to agreeing with Danjuma on personal terms/contract.”

The truth is probably somewhere in between all this talk.

There may even be some brinkmanship involved on the West Ham side.

One thing is for certain when it comes to West Ham and the transfer window, it’s never dull.
