West Ham United’s London rivals Chelsea look set to be filled with instant regret over the deal which saw Kurt Zouma join the Hammers at the weekend.
After weeks of speculation West Ham finally landed Zouma from Chelsea on Saturday in a £29 million move.
One of the delays in the move was said to be Chelsea waiting for the green light from Sevilla over their move for Zouma’s replacement, Jules Kounde.
It was widely reported that Chelsea had agreed a fee with the Spanish side for the France international and therefore sanctioned Zouma’s move to West Ham to help part fund it.
But after selling 26-year-old Zouma to West Ham, Chelsea could be filled with instant regret as Sevilla have moved the goalposts and the Kounde move looks in doubt.
The Blues had already agreed a fee of around £43m with Sevilla for Zouma’s international teammate.
But Sevilla are now said to to be asking for nearer the player’s £68.5m (€80m) release clause.
So if Chelsea don’t get Kounde in, Thomas Tuchel will almost certainly be filled with regret as his squad is clearly weaker than it was this time last week.
Meanwhile, West Ham fans will thankful for Zouma’s arrival after Craig Dawson looked shaky and arguably cost the Hammers both goals in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last time out.
West Ham have signed Nikola Vlasic today and there is plenty of speculation that more players could be on the way before the deadline.
