A Hammers board source has made a striker revelation that will infuriate Newcastle fans and delight those of West Ham.

If PSR rules have restricted one club more than most it is undoubtedly the world’s richest, Newcastle United.

West Ham have also voiced their frustrations about PSR, admitting recently that reports of potential new overseas investment were not true as ‘you can’t spend the money anyway’.

It is one of the main reasons so many rivals Premier League clubs have been selling players to one another this summer.

Newcastle are a prime example having been forced to sell Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest.

West Ham have also had to make sales to help fund transfers with Flynn Downes joining Saints for £18m.

There have been one or two deals mooted between West Ham and Newcastle.

The Magpies have been linked with a mega money move for Jarrod Bowen.

And West Ham have been linked with a deal to bring Newcastle striker – and their perennial bogeyman – Callum Wilson to the London Stadium.

With raising funds through sales so vital to making new signings, some very interesting information has come to light.

Being linked with a move for Wilson, who turns 33 next season, did not go down too well with Hammers fans.

Supporters questioned why West Ham would sign the injury-prone Englishman from Newcastle.

After a string of reported Hammers targets went elsewhere or were ruled out, all paths looked to be leading to West Ham bringing in Wilson if recent reports were anything to go by.

But yet another injury, which means the Newcastle man is set to miss the start of the 2024-25 Premier League season, proved West Ham fans were right to question the prospect of a move.

For Newcastle, though, it now looks like a big opportunity missed.

Sean Whetstone counts West Ham majority owner David Sullivan and vice-chair Karren Brady among his close contacts.

He has revealed that West Ham did in fact make an enquiry for striker Wilson last month.

But the greedy Magpies wanted too much for the injury prone player and the Hammers decided to move on to other striker targets.

“Although they think he is a great player, he misses too many games to take the risk,” Whetstone said of West Ham’s interest in the forward.

Whetstone then also confirmed Newcastle wanted £15m for the ex Bournemouth striker.

Magpies miss out on West Ham’s silver

So days after demanding too much for Wilson, he picks up another injury which all but confirms Newcastle won’t be able to sell him this summer.

His value will now diminish further with age and Newcastle will have to continue paying his £50k per week wages.

Imagine the uproar at West Ham had they paid £15m for injury prone Wilson only for him to pick up an injury in his first days at the club.

A bullet dodged for West Ham is one very much swallowed by Newcastle.

Sometimes it is better to live in the real world and be reasonable to get a deal done.

Now the Magpies are paying the price. Quite literally.

The injury seems to have forced West Ham to get serious over their bid for Villa’s Jhon Duran.

And that is a much more progressive move for the Hammers.
