Former Hammers star Scott Minto has reacted to what he’s heard about West Ham signing AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.

West Ham are widening their hunt for a new centre-back after being rejected by Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

New Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui wants to rip up the defence by signing a new partner for £40m addition Max Kilman as well as a versatile full-back.

It’s no great surprise Lopetegui is so keen to strengthen the West Ham defence.

The Hammers shipped 74 goals last season – the most they’ve ever conceded in the Premier League era.

Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd are both for sale with the latter said to be the centre of an approach from Atletico Madrid.

Rumoured Hammers target Jacob Greaves joined Ipswich from Hull while a move for Brazilian Fabricio Bruno collapsed at the 11th hour.

RB Salzburg’s Oumar Solet is believed to be one of West Ham’s alternative targets following the Todibo snub.

But another name emerged as a target over the weekend, former Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori.

The AC Milan star actually admitted back in February 2021 that West Ham just missed out on signing him the season before.

Now it could be second time lucky for the Irons.

The Hammers are allegedly front-runners in the race to sign Tomori this summer.

The 26-year-old has been one of the stars of Serie A since joining Milan from Chelsea.

As a former West Ham and Chelsea player, Scott Minto is well placed to give his view on the links.

Now Minto has reacted to what he’s heard about West Ham signing Tomori.

Minto is impressed by the signing of Kilman and has had his say on the links to Tomori.

Speaking on talkSPORT in a video you can see below, Minto thinks West Ham could be looking very good soon.

“Max Kilman is a player I like who has gone to one of my former clubs West Ham,” Minto said.

“I think he will be really good.

“There’s talk about Fikayo Tomori perhaps being linked there as well.

“If they got those two in playing together and a centre-forward, then for me, West Ham would be very, very good going forward.”

Tomori the perfect foil for Kilman?

Football Italia have described Tomori as ‘incredible’ and Milan could reportedly demand as much as €40 million (£33.5 million) for the central defender, according to Sempre Milan.

The Canada born star has five caps for the England senior team.

But he has been overlooked by Gareth Southgate in recent seasons despite his excellent form.

That has sparked much criticism of the now ex Three Lions boss.

Tomori is known for his fast running and hard tackling defensive style.

That could complement the elegant, composed approach of Kilman perfectly.

Like Kilman, Tomori is very comfortable in possession and on both feet.

West Ham technical director Tim Steidten recently made it very clear he wants to sign versatile players who can operate in multiple roles.

Steidten stated it is ‘very important in the modern game’.

Well Tomori can play in most defensive positions of different formations including filling in at full-back and even defensive midfield.
