West Ham are on the verge of completing the signing of Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville and the reported fee has raised eyebrows.
The Hammers’ longstanding interest in Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville came to a head overnight.
West Ham had made Summerville a top target as they hunt for a new left-sided attacker.
But reports of interest from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, along with a reported £15-20m gap in valuation between West Ham and Leeds meant a deal looked like a long shot.
There was fantastic news for West Ham yesterday, though, when it emerged West Ham and Leeds were in ‘advanced talks’ over a deal for the 22-year-old flying Dutchman.
Sky Sports claimed a fee and payment structure had been agreed.
Reported West Ham deal with Leeds raises eyebrows
And Leeds dropped a major hint a deal with West Ham was done when they launched a bid for a replacement.
Things have progressed further today with Crysencio in London for a medical with West Ham.
West Ham’s initial offer was reportedly just £20m and reports have abound claiming a deal was struck with Leeds at around £25m.
That has sparked anger among Leeds fans who feel the club could have got a lot more for the Championship’s best player.
West Ham fans, on the other hand, have been hailing technical director Tim Steidten for negotiating one of the deals of the summer.
Clubs tend to keep the fees involved in deals a closely guarded secret nowadays.
But a board source has shared what West Ham are actually paying Leeds for Summerville.
Sean Whetstone counts Hammers vice-chair Karren Brady – who deals with all the club’s finances – as one of his close contacts.

What West Ham are actually paying Leeds for Summerville
Whetstone has now revealed the exact details of the deal that has been agreed with Leeds.
And Leeds fans may be much happier as the total deal could actually be worth £34m to the Elland Road club.
The initial fee West Ham are paying, by the usual instalment method, is £25m.
But clauses, including one linked to what is surely an inevitable debut for Holland, could add another £9m on top.
“Crysencio Summerville financials are thought to be £25m base transfer fee paid in instalments with a further £5m of performance based standard add-ons,” Whetstone states.
“An additional clause related to an international debut means Leeds United could earn as much as £34m if all add-ons conditions are met.”
Whetstone has also revealed Summerville will be signing a five-year deal with West Ham pending a successful medical on Thursday.
A good deal all round for a top player
Given Summerville was into the final two years of his Leeds contract, this looks like a good deal all round.
The wing-wizard will also be a guaranteed starter at West Ham, where Julen Lopetegui wants to use Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta in their preferred central roles.
Had Summerville joined Chelsea or Liverpool he would have played far less.
West Ham are keen to get Summerville signed, sealed and delivered to the US.
Lopetegui and his squad are currently in Tampa where they are training ahead of a game against Crystal Palace this weekend.
West Ham will be hoping Summerville is joined out there by striker Niclas Fullkrug and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
