Big West Ham Dan-Axel Zagadou boost, Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea pushing hard for 'unbelievable' £70m+ deal

Big West Ham Dan-Axel Zagadou boost, Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea pushing hard for 'unbelievable' £70m+ deal

Fabrizio Romano claiming that Chelsea are keen on Wesley Fofana is very good news indeed for West Ham United’s hopes of signing Dan-Axel Zagadou.

Chelsea were linked with a move to sign Zagadou back in February (The Express).

At the time, it seemed as though West Ham had their work cut-out to sign Zagadou with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel allegedly keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

With the Blues allegedly pushing on for Wesley Fofana now though, Hammers boss David Moyes may well have a free run at the French free agent.

We think that Zagadou, 23, would be an exceptional signing for West Ham, and should be one that Moyes is desperate to make with Nayef Aguerd out injured and Issa Diop on his way out of the London Stadium.

Chelsea could help out West Ham by ignoring Zagadou and signing Fofana instead

Fabrizio Romano reckons that the Blues are pushing really hard to bring the Leicester centre-back to Stamford Bridge this summer:

Chelsea winning the race for the Foxes star would be great news for West Ham.

Brendan Rodgers once labelled Fofana, 21, as an ‘unbelievable’ player (The Guardian). So Chelsea will be getting a truly brilliant defender, that’s for sure.

That’s fine though, because Moyes could bring a player of similar quality to the London Stadium as well. The only difference being that West Ham can sign Zagadou for absolutely nothing!

He only made 15 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season but don’t let that fool you, he really is an exceptional defender.

BVB’s official website describe the centre-back as an ‘incredible’ player.

Standing at 6ft 6in tall, Zagadou is strong in the air but he is also quick along the ground.

The Dortmund ace is very good with the ball at his feet as well. In 15 league appearances last season he made an average of 60.2 passes per game and registered an incredibly impressive 88.2% completion rate (Who Scored).

He’s left footed as well – a crucial attribute for any defender David Moyes brings in this summer because it means that he can play at left-back if need be as well.

There is one huge red flag for West Ham to take note of though…the 22-year-old’s horrendous record with injuries.

Since 2018, Zagadou has missed 563 days of action through injury (Transfermarkt). Most of his problems have been with his knee and he recently underwent surgery to fix that particular issue.

His availability on a free transfer means that he will be a low-risk signing for the Hammers though, in spite of his recent injury problems.

It’s actually surprising that Chelsea haven’t taken the chance to sign Zagadou on a free transfer and West Ham must ensure that we take advantage of the Blues looking elsewhere this summer.

Had Chelsea tried to sign the Frenchman, it may have been mission impossible for the Hammers.
