West Ham have entered talks to sign Everton left-back Lucas Digne but his £100k-a-week wage demands could prove to be problematic.

That’s according to a report from The Daily Mail.

Left-back is an area at the London Stadium where Hammers manager David Moyes really should be looking to strengthen this month.

Aaron Cresswell suffered what seemed at the time to be an innocuous injury back in November away at Manchester City.

That was more than five weeks ago though and the 32-year-old is still yet to return to action for West Ham. Claret and Hugh broke the news on December 23rd that Cresswell had actually chipped a bone in his back.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

And his continued absence really is becoming rather worrying now. Arthur Masuaku is no where near good enough to be deputising for Aaron whilst Emmanuel Longelo is too young to be relied upon in the Premier League.

It’s surely time for Moyes to act in the January transfer window and it seems as though that’s exactly what he is doing.

West Ham enter talks to sign Lucas Digne

The Daily Mail reckon that the Hammers have entered discussions with Everton and the 43-capped France international. Chelsea and Newcastle allegedly want to sign Digne as well.

West Ham may well find it difficult to prise the 28-year-old away from Goodison Park, however.

It is claimed that Digne is demanding a £100k-a-week deal and the Hammers owners are unsure if they’re prepared to pay the Toffees ace that kind of salary.

We think that the Frenchman would be a superb addition for West Ham. He’d be the ideal long-term replacement for Aaron Cresswell.

Digne has all of the attributes needed to succeed as a top-class full-back in the modern game. He was recently described as an ‘incredible’ left-back by the Liverpool Echo.

The 28-year-old is great going forward and possesses an exceptional delivery. He’s a very solid defender as well with impressive pace. There is one big red flag for the Hammers though.

Questions must be asked about his attitude, having vociferously called out Rafa Benitez on his tactics during training (The Athletic).

David Moyes won’t like all that kind of behaviour, but who knows…perhaps he feels as though he could get the best out of the former Barcelona man.

West Ham manager Moyes absolutely has to get his transfer business 100% spot on this month.

We have a genuine chance to make a big splash in the Premier League and in Europe this season.

And the addition of a couple of top-class signings will be absolutely vital to our hopes of achieving any kind of real success.

We think that Digne would be the kind of signing to really take the Hammers to another level. Whether West Ham will be able to fight off the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle in the race for his signature though, remains to be seen.
