West Ham have once again been joined by Newcastle in the race to sign one of our transfer targets – this time Christian Eriksen.

That’s according to a report from The Times who claim that Newcastle are now very keen to sign Hammers target Eriksen on a free transfer.

West Ham manager David Moyes is allegedly keen to bring the 115-capped Denmark International to the London Stadium this summer.

Eriksen was quite simply brilliant for Brentford during the second half of last season so it’s little wonder why why West Ham and Newcastle will be keen to sign him on a free transfer this summer.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest whilst playing for Denmark at the Euros last summer. It was Brentford who were brave enough to take the plunge by signing him, however, and it turned out to be a masterstroke from the west London outfit.

It seems as though plenty of other clubs now want the Great Dane after his superb showings for the Bees last term…

Newcastle join West Ham in the race to sign Christian Eriksen

According to a report from The Times, Magpies boss Eddie Howe is keen to bring the 30-year-old play-maker to St James’ park in the summer transfer window.

And that is obviously a huge blow for West Ham.

Eriksen will undoubtedly end up being a tremendous signing for whichever club wins the race for his signature.

The 30-year-old proved over the past couple of months of the Premier League season that he still has the quality needed to make a difference at the very highest level.

The Dane bagged one goal and four assists in 11 Premier League games for Brentford last season (Transfermarkt).

Eriksen’s creativity, guile, composure in possession and quality of passing would take West Ham or Newcastle to a whole new level entirely next season.

The Dane is still one of the very best play-makers in world football. He has been described as a ‘sensational’ player by The Times.

The opportunity to sign a player of Eriksen’s calibre for absolutely nothing will obviously be one that many managers want to grasp with both hands.

And if Newcastle beat West Ham in the race to sign the 30-year-old this summer, it will very much be their gain and our loss.
