West Ham have suffered somewhat of a blow with the news that Jose Mourinho wants to bring David Moyes target Jerdy Schouten to Roma this summer.
That’s according to a report from Il Messaggero who claim that Mourinho views the Bologna ace as an alternative transfer target to Paris Saint-Germain star Gini Wijnaldum.

CalcioNapoli24 in Italy reckon that the Hammers have actually held meetings with Bologna about signing the 25-year-old and Sempre Inter claimed he will cost around €15 million (£12.7 million).

West Ham may have a tough task if we are to sign Schouten though…
Roma eyeing move to sign Jerdy Schouten is a big blow for West Ham
Il Messaggero reckon that Jose Mourinho is now eyeing a move to sign the 25-year-old Bologna star after attempts to sign Gina Wijnladum from PSG proved difficult.
That will undoubtedly make the Hammers task of signing Schouten a whole lot more problematic.
Moyes has already brought Flynn Downes to the London Stadium this summer but he clearly needs to bolster his central midfield ranks further still.
And we think Schouten would be a very smart addition for the Hammers.
He is a defensive midfielder by trade but can also operate further forward if need be.

In 17 Serie A appearances last season, the 25-year-old bagged one goal and one assist. During those outings, Schouten averaged 1.5 tackles, two interceptions and 1.6 clearances per game. He also made an average of 48.3 passes per game and recorded an 84.9% completion rate (Who Scored).
The Dutch ace also fits the physical profile of player Moyes usually likes to sign. Sempre Inter describe the Bologna ace as an ‘outstanding’ player.
Schouten stands at 6ft 1in tall and is incredibly robust, powerful and energetic. He also possesses impressive technical ability.
However, with Roma now in the race to sign Jerdy Schouten, West Ham may well have our work cut-out.
