Aston Villa could be set to hijack West Ham United’s transfer move to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire this summer.
According to Sean Whetstone, a reporter with close links to West Ham owner David Sullivan, Aston Villa could now swoop in for Harry Maguire in the summer transfer window after the injury sustained by Tyrone Mings on Saturday.

However, there’s good news as well, with Whetstone suggesting that Villa’s interest in the 30-year-old Man United centre-back is unlikely to stop Hammers boss David Moyes from signing him.

West Ham desperately need to sign a new central defender this summer, and I’m positive that Maguire would be an excellent addition for us.
It seems as though we’re still in a strong position to sign him, in spite of Villa’s late interest…

The west Midlands outfit have apparently joined the Hammers in the race for the Manchester United defender’s signature.

Maguire will be the perfect fit to our setup at the London Stadium, and getting him signed will be vital for David Moyes.
The above update was a very positive one from Whetstone, despite Villa’s late attempt to hijack the move.
If West Ham complete the transfer of Harry Maguire, as well as James Ward-Prowse and one or two others before deadline day, we’ll be in good shape this season.
