Another one looks to have bitten the dust for David Moyes as Aston Villa close in on the club record signing of Hammers target Ollie Watkins.

West Ham just £5m away from hitting Burnley asking price for Tarkowski claims source

West Ham have been consistently linked with a move for Watkins this summer, particularly after Brentford failed to win promotion (The Sun).

David Moyes is on a mission to rebuild West Ham around young, hungry players.

But so far he has been hamstrung by a lack of funds from unpopular co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold.

Another one bites the dust for Moyes?

Moyes has missed out on a host of reported targets so far this summer. From Eberechi Eze joining Crystal Palace to Aston Villa snaring Matty Cash for £15million. From Newcastle getting Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser to the Hammers missing out on Wigan duo Antonee Robinson and Cedric Kipre.

West Ham were given encouragement over their interest in Watkins and another alleged target Said Benrahma last week.

Bees boss Thomas Frank has made it clear the pair are for sale and ‘deserve a move’ in a rare admission on Sky Sports.

But Moyes looks set to miss out yet again. That’s with Aston Villa on the verge of a record £33million deal for the forward, who scored 26 goals in the Championship last season (Daily Mail).

Villa beat Hammers to Watkins in record deal which takes Prem spend past £800m

The deal could be announced by Aston Villa today after terms were agreed and a medical was booked.

Not only will the deal be a club record for Villa, it will also be a record fee for a Championship player.

The deal is also significant in that it takes Premier League spending this summer past the £800million mark.

That’s despite West Ham’s co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold pleading poverty due to the global health crisis.

All eyes on Tarkowski to add steel to flaky West Ham

West Ham are the only Premier League club not to have brought in a new signing so far this window.

The east Londoners seemingly have more pressing priorities if they are to do any business. And that’s in defence.

The Hammers were embarrassed 5-3 at home by Championship Bournemouth in the club’s final pre-season friendly at the weekend.

It was a jolt back to the dark days of last season.

Moyes has been linked with a move for Burnley defender James Tarkowski (Evening Standard).

West Ham have raised £27million towards player sales this summer. But whether West Ham’s owners front up the extra money to get Tarkowski remains to be seen.
