Lens centre-back Kevin Danso is firmly on the radar of West Ham United in the summer transfer window.
Julen Lopetegui has already strengthened his central defensive ranks at West Ham with the signing of Max Kilman, and now Danso could follow the 27-year-old to East London.
Lopetegui is said to be very keen to bring at least another three new signings to the London Stadium before the transfer window slams shut.
And an elite central defender may well be one of his main priorities.
The Hammers head coach was left with somewhat of a shambolic central defensive unit when David Moyes left earlier this summer.
West Ham shipped an utterly embarrassing 74 Premier League goals last season – a tally worsened only by the three relegated clubs.
Whilst the need to sign a top-class striker is obvious, it cannot be underestimated just how much we require another high quality centre-back as well.
Brilliant Kevin Danso could now join West Ham
According to a report from Foot Mercato, West Ham are battling it out with Wolves to sign Danso from Lens this summer.
It is alleged that he will cost around £21 million.

Breaking the Lines suggest that Danso has enjoyed a ‘formidable rise’ in the game over the past few years, and they’re bang on the money.
He began his youth career with Reading before moving on to Milton Keynes. Danso then joined Augsburg before linking up with Southampton and Fortuna Dusseldorf for loan spells.
The 25-year-old then joined Lens in the summer of 2021, and the rest is history.
Danso has firmly established himself as one of the very best central defenders in Ligue 1, and the Austria international is clearly now at the level required to make the jump up to the Premier League.
He really stood out for Lens last term, and excelled in the Champions League.
If Kevin Danso really is available for £21 million this summer, West Ham shouldn’t think twice about signing him.
Whether or not we’re able to beat Wolves to his signature remains to be seen though.
