After 83 games for West Ham, Craig Dawson reportedly could leave in January

There is reportedly a good chance that Craig Dawson will leave West Ham United in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor who told Give Me Sport that the 32-year-old could be on his way out of the London Stadium.

Dawson is out of contract in the summer of 2023, but he allegedly wants to leave West Ham before then.

He originally joined the Hammers on a season-long loan from Watford in October 2020. West Ham then made his move to the London Stadium a permanent one for a further £3 million in the summer of 2021 (The Sun).

Daws has established himself as a cult hero at West Ham but he’s actually a lot more than that. He’s a very good defender, and labelling him as a cult hero really doesn’t do him justice.

The 32-year-old is one of the best passers amongst the West Ham centre-backs now having worked really hard to improve that aspect of his game, and he deserves huge credit for that.

It appears as though his days in East London could be numbered though…

Craig Dawson could leave West Ham

The 32-year-old centre-back is clearly looking for a new challenge – one close to his home in the north of England.

Ryan Taylor has told Give Me Sport that there’s a good chance that Daws will be on his way:

I think there’s a good chance he could actually leave West Ham in January providing a replacement is signed. I think he still lives in Manchester, which is crazy, so he wants to get a move back that way.

Losing Dawson will be a big blow for West Ham in my opinion.

If he is genuinely desperate to move back closer to his family though, Moyes should just let him go. And it will certainly be better to get a small fee for him in January rather than to lose him for nothing in the summer.

He has made 83 appearances for West Ham, and has racked up nine goals in the process (Transfermarkt).

Whenever Dawson leaves West Ham, he will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression behind.

Nobody would have predicted just how popular he would become at the London Stadium, after he joined the club just over two years ago.

And we wish him well whatever he does next.
