Nothing is ever easy with West Ham United, it seems.

Indeed, there is not long left in the January transfer window and Nuno Espirito Santo is still keen to rebalance his squad as he attempts to pull his team away from the relegation zone.

West Ham United made a promising start to the January transfer window by signing Pablo Felip and Taty Castellanos but have since endured frustration.

There have been no new defensive signings, which feels like the absolute priority given the club’s porous backline.

Now, a fresh complication has emerged in regard to Adama Traore.

West Ham’s agreement with Fulham has fallen through

Traore was expected to join West Ham, having worked with Nuno at Wolves.

The Spaniard has long been linked with a move to east London and it looked like a relatively simple deal to do, given his lack of action at Fulham when Marco Silva has his full squad available.

However, there has been a stumbling block.

Why would we keep an unhappy player 😂

What does this tell you about the decision making behind the scenes?!

According to journalist Sam Tabuteau of Standard Sport, West Ham and Fulham no longer have an agreement in place.

At this stage, it remains unclear if talks will continue to try and resurrect a deal.

Adama Traore shouldn’t be West Ham’s priority during January transfer window

Traore loves working with Nuno but it’s hard to see the player being enough to save West Ham from relegation.

What the club desperately need are new defenders. They simply won’t stay in the Premier League unless defensive reinforcements arrive.

West Ham do plan to sign a new central defender and while a move for Traore makes sense given the Nuno connection, they would be unwise to devote too much time to it.

There are much more pressing needs for the Hammers right now. Their survival depends on plugging gaps in the defence.
